Miltenyi Biotec GentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters

In conjunction with the Dept. of Microbiology and Immunology in the Vet College, the CVG has purchased a Miltenyi Biotec GentleMACS instrument. This instrument will be available for use by CVG member labs without charge.

Brian Rudd in Microbiology and Immunology has demonstrated the instrument and found that it enables much better cell yields than standard methods. The instrument will be managed by Walter Iddings in the Microbiology & Immunology Dept.

Instructions for Use

The dissociator is located in Rm. C4110 in the VMC. It is in a lab that is unlocked between roughly 8:30am to 5pm. If use is needed outside of that time period, please contact Walter Iddings to make arrangements. There is a calendar through Outlook to reserve the machine, available after users schedule a short training session with Walter.

• Every user must go through a brief training with Walter Iddings before using the machine.
• Read the detailed user manual or ask if you have a question about use of the machine.
• Do not turn off or unplug the machine when it is executing a program. Damage to the machine can result from this.
• Clean up any spills.
• Do not look at the LEDs when the trough is removed. Always turn off the machine before removing the trough.
• Do not touch the instrument's rotor when it is moving.
• Use only gentleMACS tubes and caps.
• Do not remove a tube if a program is executing on that location.
• If an error occurs with a tube, remove the tube and inspect to see if any debris is binding on the rotor assembly.
• Do not edit another user's custom program.
• Pull the tubes straight up.
• Do not rock the heaters when you remove them.
